VIA RAIL TO THE ATLANTIC PROVINCES

Train rides to the Eastern Canadian provinces evoke images of lighthouses, crashing surf, fishing boats - it's no wonder they call it the Maritimes! Certainly the sea has shaped the culture and lifestyle of this scenic region, but it doesn't account for the friendliness of the people of Atlantic Canada. Enjoy excellent boating and fishing opportunities, explore rocky coves by kayak, take advantage of spectacular whale watching opportunities and indulge in exquisite seafood cuisine. And it's not just rustic seaside villages: cosmopolitan cities offer shopping, dining and nightlife with all the Maritime hospitality.

There you'll find centuries of history in artifacts and daily life reenacted in period-costumes. Or come to Lunenburg, a town founded in 1753 and now a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site for its unique architecture, the best surviving example of a planned British colony.

Or visit St. Andrews by the Sea in New Brunswick, one of the oldest and loveliest seaside resort towns in Canada.
